Ohio State Senator Kent Smith, minority whip and longtime legislator, paid a visit to Lee Silsby Compounding Pharmacy in late April. Prior to his visit, Smith had a limited background on the world of compounding. On April 10, members of the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding, California compounders, and other stakeholders gathered at the California state capitol in Sacramento to spend the day meeting with 21 different offices of the state legislature to address the challenges compounders are facing in the state. Also there was Revelation Pharma’s government affairs associate, Katie Johnston.

On April 10, compounders split into three groups, each of which would meet with seven state legislators of various parties, backgrounds, and influence (and/or their staff). Those meetings ran from 9:30 a.m. through 4:30 p.m., and each focused on introducing the the legislator to the world of compounding and to raise attention to issues compounders have with the California Board of Pharmacy.

Florida Representative Shane Abbott paid a visit to Revelation Pharma family member Everwell Specialty Pharmacy in Pensacola, Fla., where he had a dynamic conversation on pharmacy compounding, regulatory reform, and the hurdles confronting patients and pharmacists alike. The whole issue of compounding GLP-1 agonists like semaglutide is fraught with land mines and misinformation — disinformation, even.

It's good, then, that the Game Changers Pharmacotherapy Podcast had a couple of guests who know what they're talking about to clear some of the air: Tenille Davis, PharmD, RPh (chief advocacy officer for the Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding) and Scott Brunner, CAE (CEO of APC). The host — Geoff Wall, PharmD — has the chops, too; he's a professor of pharmacy practice at Drake University.
